Back (but different) New domain

As promised, the site has been resurrected. It's taken a while but it's a new design. Still the same pictures, mainly (give us a chance!) and obviously I'll have to start again as the old domain was no longer available. The only difference is a missing hyphen in the new domain name but what a difference that makes!

See how it goes!

Redders-Daleks bites the dust

The domain subscription came due for renewal and, to be honest, I couldn't be bothered with it. There have been a few emails and comments up and down the web about the demise of Redders Daleks. I've had a couple of email exchanges with Peter Labrow and Nick Scovell, both of whom have been very supportive.

If I feel up to it, I'll have a go at resurrection but probably not until the new year. Thanks to everyone who's been interested

Depressed

Having a bloody awful time of things at the moment so have not done any work whatsoever on the site, arty stuff, music stuff or anything to do with Daleks. Only the third Doctor Who series has kept me going

Movies

Having continually promised and not delivered, I have now developed a very short Dalek Movie WITH SOUND!!

Maybe, more to come

New Year

  • At last - an update! Sorry this has taken a (relatively) long time. I have some excuses for that but I'm sure you won't be interested! So let's get on with it.
  • 2005 was definitely the year of the Daleks, wasn't it? It's just a shame that the toy remote control Daleks were so hard to get - I still haven't got one! I guess in 2006, as far as the New Doctor Who Series is concerned (David Tennant is brilliant, by the way), the Cybermen will be coming more to the forefront and the pepperpots will take a back seat. I have no plans to start rendering Cybermen (too difficult) so I'll just plod on with what I do!
  • I've reworked my basic Dalek model - it was just getting too complicated. Here it is Click
  • And I've redone a couple of the earlier scenes from "Dalek". Here and here.
  • I've got a new computer with considerably more firepower. So the first thing I did was to see how many of my Daleks I could get into a scene before it fell over. 23 (most of them high resolution) and the hellishly complicated Emperor - in this, endlessly modified New Command Structure!
  • A new picture from Parting of the Ways. Slightly dull.
  • Finally for this update, I've done another scene based on my "evolved" Daleks. Reaction to this evolved Dalek has been muted, to say the least. The Special Weapons varieties have found some favour - thanks for that. However, my new design Dalek has met with pretty much a stony silence all round!!! Don't worry - I don't regard it as an improvement on the classic design - I wouldn't be so breathtakingly arrogant! It was just a bit of fun and I doubt I'll be spending much more time on it. You'll recall (perhaps) that I was trying to take the classic Dalek elements together with features from the new Emperor to create a new design. But you all hate it and I don't blame you!! One last picture (at least this one's got a "real" Dalek in it) and then time to move on.

And More.........

  • I've recently been doing some work for an "Evil of the Daleks" project. More details soon. This has spurred me on to do some new renders, featuring these original 60's Daleks so I've upgraded a couple of pictures and done a new one. Click, click and click.

Not Getting On With Things

  • OK, so I've not been getting on with the things I should have - sorry people! Instead, having created the Genesis Ark model, I've used it in every picture I've done recently. Oh no! It ain't that good either!
  • So you get a few new pictures and a FREE Genesis Ark with each one. Go to R8

Army of Ghosts

  • Wow! Army of Ghosts! Quick celebration picture added, part of a project I'm doing for Anthony Dry.
  • Banner on the Home Page now updated to show The Black Dalek. suggested by Noel Morrissey.
  • Army of Ghosts picture updated to include the "Genesis Ark" A bit rough but it's a start.........Click

The Black Dalek?

  • Following a number of requests, I've recreated the Black Dalek seen on the recent (ish) BAFTA awards ceremony. Not having seen it myself, I'm reliant on the pictures sent to me by a number of people, including Marc Leach and Noel Morrissey - thanks for these. I've stuck this Dalek into one of my, now infamous "Dalek Empire" type poses with the Emperor (who we don't expect to see in the current series) at the back. Here goes...
  • Oh and I've modified my Command Structure (or one of them) to include the new Black Dalek. Click.

Evil of the Daleks

  • Spent a fair bit of time working with Nick Scovell and the cast and crew of the stage play, "Evil of the Daleks." A great bunch! And a great production to be sure! Check the website. Did the poster and leaflet for this. Thanks, Nick, for making this a really enjoyable experience.

Ant

  • The "Genesis of the Daleks" DVD was released this week. To celebrate one of the best, if not the best Dr Who story ever, here are a couple of pictures. Portrait. Landscape. Anthony Dry ( kasterborous.com ), briefed me on the second picture. Thanks Ant!

Obsessed

  • I've obsessed myself into the ground, trying to "improve the detail" on my New Series model. Trouble is, even I'm hard pushed to tell the difference. Anyway, here's the latest offering, dirtied down and shown as an "Assault Dalek." Click.
  • A couple of people have asked for more scenes, showing the "Golden" Emperor, so here's a couple. Thanks to Marc and Steve. More later. Click and click.

And More.........

  • A fairly ho-hum update. Messing around recently and came up with a few dull pics. Click, click, click. Nothing much original there, I'm afraid. I've had many great suggestions and am working on them but in the meantime.......
  • I've also revamped many of the more long standing pictures. have a look and see if you can spot the differences (if time is hanging heavy on your hands.)

Nothing Terribly Interesting

  • OK - nothing terribly interesting. I've taken a (temporary) break from the New Series Daleks and instead, rehashed a couple of earlier scenes from Classic Dr Who. Well actually, they're completely new. So I'm taking the opportunity to revisit some of the stuff in the "Gallery" which is gathering virtual dust at the moment.
  • If you're interested, have a look at these two from the gallery .

Lots of interest

  • Bit of a crisis at the end of October! The site was "off-line" for a couple of days due to the unexpectedly high volume of traffic exceeding the permitted bandwidth. Now as far as I'm concerned, that's great! Keep that traffic coming boys and girls! I've forked out for an upgraded account (shoulda done that in the first place, of course) and thanks to one and all for your continued interest and support.
  • Thanks also to the large number of you who have asked for particular pictures. Rest assured, I'm working on all of them (except the REALLY difficult ones) and results will appear as soon as possible.
  • Oh yeah , here's another picture. Matthew Ridge has been very patiently waiting for me to come up with a command structure which reports to the Parting of the Ways Emperor. Well, this isn't it (see excuse attached to the picture) but at least, it's a start! Click.
  • New picture, replacing one of the earlier efforts on the Dalek Ship. Click.
  • I've spent an inordinate amount of time, doing minor modifications to my basic Dalek model. This includes the dome, mid ring and base bits. This has been extraordinarily painstaking and, as a result, I have re-rendered most of the pictures in the New Series Section (Fave Pics) to incorporate the revised detailing. To most of you, this will be somewhat so what-ish, I imagine but it gives me an excuse for not having got on with the vast number of requests I have received. The basic Dalek has to be as correct as I can make it, you see!
  • I received an e-mail from Ron Brunwin AND a pic of his own Dalek, Dudley, a Resurrection era type, which I suspect he made himself. Now that's what I call skill! As a tribute, here, for a change, is a non New Series Dalek pic :-) Click
  • Also the Resurrection picture on the "Background" page now also has a link to Dudley!
  • A new original (ish) though slightly derivative Special Weapons Dalek has been modelled and rendered today. Two pics. Tony Holt suggested such a a Dalek along New Series lines. Great idea! I've tried to incorporate bits of the old Special Weapons Dalek, bits of the New Series Dalek and, finally, bits of the Emperor as it is suggested that the Daleks may evolve along these lines. Ron Demkiw has encouraged me to have a go at a few thoughts as to how the Daleks might evolve. So, this might be the first stage??
  • Only another day has passed and I've already "evolved" the Special Weapons design to incorporate more elements of the Emperor. I'm now working on how this design might become an evolved standard Dalek! Now calm down Redders!
  • A couple of quick mods to the above mentioned Special Weapons Dalek have been completed! The keener eyed amongst you will have noticed that the central arm under the base of the Stage 2 Special Weapons Daleks has disappeared. We now have two alternatives - one with no "3rd" arm and one with two! The reason is that it was suggested that the original design resembled a male - ahem! - appendage! Hasty modification has therefore ensued! Have a quick look! Without Arm and With Two Arms!
  • Right! The evolved standard Dalek has now been completed, based, again, on recognised Dalek icons - sucker, gun, spheres, eyestick etc., BUT incorporating bits of the Emperor's design. It's work-in-progress but a couple of renders have been produced for your amusement! Click. And again!
  • A fairly large upgrade, As threatened, the "Heroes & Villains" section has been axed. It made it's point, I think, and was in danger of being a bit whiny and self indulgent. So "Bye Bye, Heroes & Villains" and a big "Hello" to the all new "Fantasy & New Daleks" section! Click.

New Pictures

  • New section added - "Heroes & Villains" Self-explanatory, really and not to be taken too seriously! Click
  • A new variant on the NEW SERIES EMPIRE PICTURE added, featuring a black Dalek Supreme, Thanks, Marc , for the suggestion. Click
  • Couple of dead links buried including, sadly, Mick Imrie's excellent Dalek WebHome
  • A new picture, inspired by a suggestion from Edward Catt - Cheers Ed! Click here
  • Another new picture, this time following a suggestion from Ciaran Wilkinson. Thanks Ciaran! Click here
  • An idea from long time fan and supporter - Dave Wailing for a new picture and, hopefully, a lot of new ideas. Click away, my friends!
  • A new picture. Yes, you'll have to look carefully - but there is a Dalek there At least, there should be. I've had to save this one as a PNG file to preserve the detail. The JPG file I originally saved it as, was just too blurry and useless. Hopefully your various browsers will be OK. If not - well, we'll just have to cope somehow!
  • Some further pictures added to the "Fantasy" section. I've also had several requests for ideas for this new bit. Thanks to everyone who has corresponded. I'm working on pretty much all of your suggestions (except the really tough ones!). Click.

Revisions and Updates

  • On the eve of the the fourth Doctor Who DVD release (the one featuring "Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways," I've finished a new set of pictures, including a couple of scenes on one of the ships in the Dalek Fleet.
  • Some more stuff in the pipeline includes Dalek going upstairs ("Dalek"), Daleks cutting through a door ("Parting of the Ways") and some more involved scenes on the Dalek Ship ("Parting of the Ways")
  • Go to R8. Click
  • By the way, calling this page "R8" is a bit pointless. I'm actually now using version R9 of Cinema 4D. I'll change this sometime (maybe).
  • A pretty brutal culling of some of the previous pictures has occurred.
  • I've just completed a new DALEK SHIP interior scene. CLICK HERE!
  • A New Picture, following a request from the US! Thanks Dave - good idea! Click
  • We've got our own DOMAIN! About time - all that fiddly freespace...dalframe stuff was getting on everyone's nerves!
  • There's now loads more webspace so I'm likely to be cluttering up the pages with new images, old images - just about anything I can think of, really!

PArting of the Ways

  • I've finished my model of the Emperor from "Parting of the Ways." He took a while.!
  • I've reworked my basic New Sreies Model again! Textures and detailing have been modified and most of the earlier renders have been replaced. I know! I'm always doing that but, hey, that's what I do. Some call it attention to detail, others call it a ridiculous obsession!!
  • I've got some basic scenes up from "Parting of the Ways".
  • I've reworked the "Dalek in Chains" scene from Episode 6 of the new series.
  • LATEST! LATEST! New Scenes now included with the Emperor
  • Go the R8!
  • Just a small point. I find myself endlessly fiddling with detail here and there - a slight change to the reflection map on one of the textures, perhaps. Or a change in dimensions of one of the rivets on the dome! I am continually updating the New series pictures on the "Faves, R8" page . The large changes, will get flagged up on this page but the small changes won't. For example, I've just updated all the "Parting of the Ways" pictures and one of the "Dalek" pictures as I've made some pretty significant changes to the cowl on the Dalek domes. Can you see what I mean? I've also changed the "Emperor" pictures three times since I first uploaded them a week ago!
  • That's obsession for you! What can I say?

Dalek

  • I've spent loads of time this week, doing some scenes from "Dalek. "
  • Wow! I've just seen the trailer on Doctor Who. As suspected, the Daleks return! Yes! I've updtaed all my New Series pics, hopefully for the last time (for a while) in order to prepare the ground for renderings from the two-parter season finale. Watch here for more news
  • Using the colour swatches from the Beeb website, I've had another bash at the Dalek Command Structure.
  • If you are underwhelmed with excitement, check all these new pictures.
  • Further messing about on the New Series Model. I was going to do some more stuff but..... I think I've absorbed some of Rose's DNA because I actually care about the Daleks.
  • OK - I've recovered and done some work on the hastily-to-get-it-ready-before-the-Dalek-episode "Dalek in Chains" picture. It's a bit better now. I've still to update one or two of the other pictures.

Progress

  • I've done further work on the detailing of the New Series Daleks so the relevant pictures are now updated.
  • The Home Page banner has also received a similar makeover. Did you notice?
  • As the new Doctor Who episode, "Dalek," was originally thought to feature a Dalek in a space station, I've done one. Should keep us going for now.
  • OK, so this may not seem very exciting, but it is to me !!

Yet More.........

  • I've added a couple of new scenes. The first one is based on "DALEK" I've added some more detail since posting this, including the ripped casing panel ! Well, it keeps me off the streets.
  • The second scene is a close up, following more detailed pics becoming available on the web and elsewhere.

Ho Hum!

  • Nothing dramatically new but my main New Series pics have been tarted up as some video footage on the net reveals more detailing

New Series Stuff

  • I thought I'd kick off the New Year with a couple of new pictures. The first is a salute to Big Finish, replacing the previous "Exterminators" for reasons which probably won't become clear any time soon. Click here
  • The second is an updated "Revelation Dalek" picture. Click on the smaller picture in "Background" to peruse this latest effort. Or go directly to the picture
  • I've also had another go at the Special Weapons Dalek. This new picture replaces the previous effort.

Yet More.........

  • Now I've redone the Gold Chief Dalek from "Day of the Daleks" to make hime a bit less gold and a bit more authentic. See him here. Thanks to Sean Gibbons for pointing me towards http://chronotravel2.com/which has a few stills from, among other things, the aforementioned Day of the Daleks. I've actually updated this picture again since writing this.
  • I'm thinking of ditching a few pictures in the gallery to make way for newer offerings. Web space is limited so, unfortunately, as the site develops, something has to go. Amongst those being considered for the chop are the comic strip Zeg and the not-very-good-Bryce render. If anyone wants to make an impassioned plea for the salvation of either of these, less than masterpieces, let me know! (e-mail). Some of the more enthusiastic but less impressive rushed "new series" jobs will definitely be axed as the New Series itself takes shape.
  • A few new Links added in the "Background" page

Still More.........

  • A New New Series Picture. It's a crowd! Click

And Yet, Still More.........

  • The Day of the Daleks returns. Much excitement heralds the return of an old favourite!
  • As threatened, the comic style "Zeg the Invincible" has been removed as web space is limited. The Bryce render (see above) will follow soon - if you have tears, prepare to shed them!

Duuuuuhhh!!

  • After the excitement caused by the November New Series Dalek renders, (see below), I have finally figured out something which is probably obvious to all of you. Namely that the new Daleks are gold coloured. Duuh!
  • Done a coupla renders, anyway....

New Series!!

  • Following the publication of photos, purporting to be the new style Daleks for the forthcoming series, I have produced a couple of pictures. More will undoubtedly follow. If you can't contain your excitement, click here.
  • Home Page updated to show new Dalek head
  • A few "New Series" scenes hastily cobbled together.

More Stuff

  • Three new renders have been added to the gallery - the famous gold "Chief" Dalek from "Day of the Daleks", the idiotic and doomed Death Zone Dalek from "The Five Doctors" and a tribute to "Big Finish"
  • Deliberate (!) mistake corrected on the description of the first "Evil of the Daleks" picture
  • The "Sketch & Toon" stuff has been removed because it's boring and useless

Woohoo!

  • Quick celebratory picture added - "Day of Armageddon"

New Software

  • Cinema 4D Software now upgraded to Version 8.5
  • New "Sketch & Toon" renders added to R8 Section. Ironic, really! I spend all this time trying to get my Daleks to be as photorealistic as possible and then start mucking about with sketch and cartoon type pictures. Oh well.
  • A couple of other scenes have been added to the "Background" page. Just click on the "Invasion" and "Genesis" small pics to see a couple of scenes featuring these guys.

Makeover

  • The whole site has had a makeover and updates have been made to all major sections.
  • New site styling .
  • Again the previous gallery (this time from May 2001) has been ditched virtually in its entirety. New or updated images abound, based mainly on the newest version of Cinema 4D which, at the time of writing, is version R8.2. If anyone mourns the passing of the old images (unlikely), let me know.
  • "Background" page updated to reflect software currently used. Also, more importantly, most of the waffle in the Background section has been, thankfully, deleted and replaced with stuff which is, hopefully, more informative. New Links also added
  • "Voices" section updated to include "Big Finish" voices.

Further Progress

  • Further progress as a new section, devoted to the Cinema 4D XL7 upgrade is unleashed.
  • Background page updated to reflect software upgrades
  • Home Page redesigned
  • Logos updates

Updates

  • Yes!! At last, I've got round to revamping the gallery, which is now considerably more extensive. Regrettably, most of the original renders have been thrown out in favour of the new collection!
  • Background page updated to reflect software currently used.
  • New link to "Dalek Builders Club" inserted.

The Start!
